new found love!

Okay, so a couple months ago I posted a picture of a quilt kit that I was really excited to start. Well I started it back then...but all I did was cut the strips. Then it got shoved in the corner. Over this Memorial Day weekend I pulled it back out. And finished it! Well not quite. All thats left is the binding which I am working on tonight. After work on Sunday I came home and laid out all the strips, pinned the back and the batting together and then began sewing. I wasn't able to get too much done because it was late but I was hooked. I LOVE quilting!!! When I woke up Monday morning that was the first thing I wanted to do. I worked on it for 5 hours straight and finished it...well except for the binding.

I think my favorite part is the rick rack. :]

I'm ready to start my next one. I'm going to start cutting my squares out of the Heather Ross fabric I bought a month or so ago.

AND I just ordered some more fabric for ANOTHER quilt pattern that I saw at a store on Saturday. It should be showing up in the mail any day now.
I think this is probably one of those hobbies that I should not have gotten into...

My sister and I went and saw Earth last night. And the best part was that it only cost $3.50 for the both of us (mmhmm...gotta love buy-one-get-one-free coupons and Tuesday Bargain night at a cute little twin theatre). Okay so that wasn't the best part...the movie was the best part. More specifically, the polar bears were the best part. They were so cute. I wish I had one for a friend. The movie was beautiful and it made me glad that I'm not an animal. Nah, it really opened my eyes. It was good.
I'm recommending it to everyone.

And sadly, my holga film still hasn't come back. I was informed that it could take up to two more weeks. Seriously?!!

mmmm...sunshine.

Today was perfect. I spent the afternoon sitting outside in the grass. It was wonderful. The sunshine and warmth was very much needed.

I finished my baby blankets and burp cloths this weekend too. My mom bought the fabric for me a LOOOOONG time ago and I'd been slowly working on them. This weekend I finished the airplane set. They're my favorite. :]

I don't have much else to say. All I know is that I can't wait for this week to be over! I take my boards this Friday and I just want to be done! Ah! I'm so nervous! Once I'm done with the boards I'll be worry-free until school starts again in the fall.

Wish me luck!

xo.

happy friday!

Well well well...its been awhile since I've shown this blog some love.

First off, I just have to say that Google Reader is the best.

I'm in love with this man's artwork.

I love this swimsuit that I just got yesterday!
And sketchbooks rock. I just bought like four of them and I guarantee I'll use them right up. Right now, I'm using one for my quote/picture book. I love quotes and I've had the hardest time finding a fun way to keep them (somewhat) organized. This sketchbook does the trick.

I just mod-podged some paper on the front and covered the spiral binding with some fabric and voilĂ ! I love it!

Also, as of late, I've been obsessed with fabric. After much contemplating, I ordered this fabric that I've been in love with and I about DIED when I went to the mailbox today and found it waiting for me! Seriously, I've been in love with the Heather Ross Mendocino collection since it first came out. I finally splurged and bought enough of it to make a quilt with. I can't wait!
I had to control myself so I wouldn't buy anymore fabric...this store has the cutest fabric!
And can I just say that getting packages in the mail is the best! Its like Christmas all over again!

Well I'm out!

I'll leave you with my new favorite song at the moment!

i want her dress.
and i want to dress up in balloons
and white tights
and dance around in clouds of colored smoke. :]

Have a fabulous weekend! :]

spring break

Spring break is always a wonderful time of year. But this one didn't start out so good. 15 inches of new snow. Serious. But its finishing up rather nicely. Its pretty warm today. My brother and I went and played tennis and it felt so good to soak up some of that warm happiness. And good news: This week is supposed to bring us some more.
Now for even more good news: I'm finished with my clinical hours. And the very first thing I did was paint my fingernails bright red! We can have our fingernails painted while at the hospital but the polish can't be chipped. So of course I don't even attempt. My fingernail polish chips within the first two minutes of painting them. Anyway, now that my clinicals are done I have an extra twenty four hours a week. That is a whole day! I've been using my time wisely by placing at least two hours aside each day for some studying and flash-card-making time. I'll take my boards either the last week in April or first part of May so I've got to get cracking down on that studying. I don't want to deal with the procrastination or last-minute-cramming.
Besides studying, I've done some deep cleaning in my room. Some spring cleaning. And boy, have I gotten a lot cleaned out, a lot thrown away. I'm almost embarassed to say this but I still had my chemistry and physics workbooks from high school! What I was saving them for, I'll never know.
I've also been using my extra time to work on my art journal, my family history project and other random crafts. Here are a couple pages I did yesterday:

And this is a piece I made that was inspired by the wonderful film The Wizard of Oz. The colors are showing up a little yucky but I promise you there is a green, blue and purple stripe, even though it looks like blue, blue and blue. And this is what I'm going to work on this afternoon:
It is going to be my first attempt at a quilt. I'm so excited! My mom gave me this kit for Christmas and I am so in love with the fabric.

no saturday! come back!

Today is over and I honestly can't even tell you what I've done today. I woke up, worked out, came home, showered, and....now I'm here and it is 8:21. Thats it. What a waste, huh? Goll, I hate when I do that.
Here are just a couple patterns I drew out and finished today. Not very happy with the first one. It didn't turn out at all like I wanted it to. I definitely want to change up the colors a bit. Actually add some color. There is no color as it is. Maybe different shades of pinks and reds. You know, for Valentines Day. Maybe change the writing too...block instead of cursive... Maybe get rid of the border. I don't know. But I am going to attempt it again. :]
I need to fix the bird on the other one too. Right now, I'm going to go scrap! I can't let this day totally go to waste. After all, it is my last day of freedom for another week.

everyday should be like this...

This was a very much needed day off. And it felt sooooo good. I slept in until about 9:30 and then went to the gym for a little jog. Came home, got ready, ate Quiznos with my mom, and then spent the rest of the afternoon in my craft room. :] To put it simply, it was a fabulous day.
I thought I'd share a few pages from my art journal that I finished up today.
Well, I think I'm going to make some ringtones for my phone (I've had it for about a month and still don't have any ringtones!), embroider and watch Jay Leno to finish off this wonderful day.

embroidery fun

So this weekend I tried to embroider for the first time ever. And I LOVED it! It is so much fun! I'll definitely be doing it more often! Here's my first project:You can get these super cute patterns here.

apron love!

Yes! I made this! Cute, isn't it?
Took me long enough too.
I can't even begin to tell you how many mistakes I made, how many times I had to unpick stitches, how many times I cut the fabric wrong.
But hey, give me a break, I haven't sewn since my 8th grade sewing class. :]
So my mom found the pattern for this apron on this blog.Try it! It was pretty easy and super fun to make!
